The smallest amount of something

When I stumbled upon this wallet from Tyler Pratt Industrial Design I was intrigued. It’s a little leather pouch with a wooden panel in the middle. It’s made by Tyler Pratt, hence the name, a product designer based in Ontario, Canada.

Design

First of all I want to start by stating that this wallet is not really my style. Although I find it very interesting-looking, at the same time there’s something to it that isn’t really attractive. I think it’s the fact that it looks quite home-made, like it’s a really good prototype in its final stages, but it still needs some tweaking. For example, the stitches are too dark for my taste. They look like they’re dirty and like they’re staining the leather.

Quality & finish

The card holder is made of 100% genuine leather and wood with a dimension of 6.7 x 8.8 x 0.5 cm. The sides are finished off with stitches. As stated above, the finish of the stitches ain’t that great.

Storage capacity

The card holder can hold up to 6 cards, 3 on each side, a few folded bills and one key. It’s quite a decent amount for that kind of product.

Features

At first the wooden plate in the middle seemed fragile, although when you have the product in your hands, it’s sturdy enough for daily use.
Another nice feature is the cuts in the back that you can use to slide a key into it. Very handy when you need to take only one key along, f.e. when going out, or when you don’t need other keys.

Usability

The card holder is very easy to use. Two slots and a key holder, there ain’t more to it. No difficult tricks to use this holder.

Also bear in mind that when you use the wallet for the first times, it’s difficult to pull out a card when the card slot is at full capacity. So you need to stretch the leather a bit.

Innovation

The Vestige by Tyler Pratt Industrial Design ain’t bulking with innovative features. The holder is quite plain and as stated above looks a bit DIY. The only innovation to it, is the key holder on the back.

Final verdict

It’s a card holder with a very limited amount of  card storage. It doesn’t seems like a very sturdy product because of the wooden plate. It looks a bit homemade due to the ‘dirty-like’ stitches.
